Cast Iron 3 Speed
Ford-O-Matic was the first automatic transmission used by the Ford Motor Company. It was designed by Borg Warner Corporation. Introduced in 1950, Ford changed the name to Cruise-O-Matic in 1958. The Ford-O-Matic becoming a 2-speed in 1959. The original versions were known as MX (large) and FX (small). The transmission were also marketed as the Merc-O-Matic in a Mercury and Mile-O-Matic in Edsel. There are several different splines and different pad heights. 1957 and earlier converters were take apart finned aluminum units.
